Day 1 - JULY 21


(B,L) At a convenient time transfer from San Pedro de Atacama to Hito Cajón for an unforgettable trip across the border enjoying stunning scenery dominated by the Licancabur Volcano. One of the jewels of the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve -the Green Lagoon- is one of the high points of our expedition in a 4x4 vehicle. The strange beauty of this lagoon is really like no other in the world. On the way out of the Green Lagoon we enter a wide landscape: the Desert of Dali, pass by the hot springs of Polques, in the afternoon arrive at the salt flats and visit the salt flats enjoying the sunset with a Bolivian wine and gourmet products. DAY 2 - JULY 22

After breakfast, we continue our trip by entering the salt flats through Colchani, where we will see how the salt is processed manually. After a 30-minute journey over the vast surface of the white desert we will visit the "salt hotel", the eyes of water and afterward drive west to continue our journey towards Tunupa Volcano. We will reach it through Tahua and visit the communities of Coquesa and the museum in Chantani. (B,L,D)

DAY 3 - JULY 23

UYUNI - LA PAZ: Transfer from Luna Salada to the Airport.
The city of La Paz and its surroundings are rife with a living history where indigenous, colonial, and modern customs collide, all under the watch of the majestic Illimani mountain. Peruse the Witch's Market, where mysterious treasures await around every corner. During the morning, take a short break for salteñas, a savoury Bolivian baked empanada. During your tour of La Paz, stop for a visit to the impressive Museum of Ethnography and Folklore which showcases regional particularities and unique characteristics of the many cultures of Bolivia. You will also have the chance to visit Salar Gallery where you can meet the owner, Gastón Ugalde, or the gallery curator, his son Mariano Ugalde. Gastón Ugalde is Bolivia’s most celebrated living artist, considered a visual arts leader in the region and referred to by critics as the ‘Andean Warhol’. The gallery showcases a 50 year retrospective of Ugalde’s own work, along with carefully curated work from international artists. Enjoy lunch at Ali Pacha (table reservation), meaning Universe of Plants in the native Aymara language, this exciting new restaurant has a menu entirely based on plant products, with the aim of showcasing under-used produce and championing micro-producers from around Bolivia. (Table reservation only – meal and drinks own cost). Continue to the Moon Valley, a series of polychromatic clay formations created by the persistent wind and water erosion of the area's mountains. Return to your hotel later this afternoon for the remainder of the day at leisure.

DAY 4 - JULY 24

Take a cable car, part of the capital’s public transportation system, high above La Paz to the El Alto plateau. An architecture tour of this district will reveal the socio – economic story behind the colorful luxury buildings know as Cholets. You will be guided by the famed architect driving the movement, Freddy Mamani. These futuristic facades have mushroomed in El Alto since the 2006 election of President Evo Morales, championing indigenous rights of the Aymara people. In the afternoon participate in a traditional cooking class with a local Bolivian family who will take you to a market to buy the ingredients you will need to make different dishes. Everything you make will use typical Andean products, here you can choose from quinoa, trout, a wide variety of potatoes, beef, llama meat and spices. The aim is to be interactive and share knowledge from each other’s country’s and backgrounds. (B, L)

Transfer to the airport in La Paz for a direct flight to Cuzco.
